April 29, 2024

Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD) can be confirmed if you tried two or more traditional antidepressants with no improvement in your quality of life. If you’ve been diagnosed with Treatment Resistant Depression, you may now experience relief with SPRAVATO®. This novel esketamine medication has been shown to help with depression symptoms, like suicidal thoughts and actions.

Notwithstanding, SPRAVATO is different than the traditional pill or liquid. It is a immensely regulated FDA-approved medication that can only be given by authorized SPRAVATO providers. But what can you anticipate during a SPRAVATO treatment Near Freehold?

SPRAVATO Should Only Be Administered Through An FDA-Approved Provider

SPRAVATO can only be dispensed under strict medical guidance at a facility certified in the SPRAVATO Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program. The Counseling Center At Freehold is excited to be included in the program as an sanctioned SPRAVATO treatment provider. Before you start your treatments, we will teach you on the benefits and risks of SPRAVATO use, including sedation, dissociation, abuse, and misuse. We’ll also discuss common side effects, many of which take place directly after the dose and subside the same day.

What Happens At Your SPRAVATO Treatment

Your first office visit at our certified SPRAVATO treatment center near Freehold will be a consultation. You will have an evaluation to see if you have treatment-resistant depression and if this treatment is right treatment for you. You might be eligible for SPRAVATO if you attempted more than two traditional depression treatments and did not see improvement in your symptoms.

Your First SPRAVATO Treatment Near Freehold

Your SPRAVATO treatment can start as soon as your second visit. But before you start, there are a few things to consider.

  • Arrange transportation. You’ll need a ride to and from our facility as you won’t be allowed to operate a motor vehicle or do anything that takes undistracted alertness until the next day.
  • Bring something to do. As you take the treatment, you’ll be supervised for at least two hours. Bring a something to read, a fully charged phone, or a different form of portable entertainment.
  • Guidelines for food and drink. Since SPRAVATO can cause nausea and vomiting in some clients, you shouldn’t consume food for at least two hours prior and avoid liquids for 30 minutes prior.
  • Don’t take other nasal medications for at least one hour. If you ingest nasal corticosteroid or nasal decongestant medications, do so at a minimum of one hour prior your treatment.

Once you’ve made your preparations, you will start your session. We will guide you on the proper use of the nasal spray. You will self-administer the spray while under the direct care of our clinicians. We’ll monitor you for a minimum of two hours and let you know when it’s time for you to leave.

For the first four weeks, you will take SPRAVATO twice a week. Once completed, we’ll examine the frequency and levels of your dosage and suggest the next steps that considers your symptoms, progress, and other factors.

What Will I Feel Like During A SPRAVATO Treatment?

SPRAVATO provides a relaxed, calm mood that helps alleviate your symptoms of TRD. The dosage does not cause drowsiness in most patients, but you could feel sleepy or doze off during your session. The tiredness or sleepiness you experience should leave not too long after the session ends or during the monitored recovery period.

Other complications are possible, including dizziness, nausea, vomiting, or disorientation. However, many patients experience few or no side effects at all.
